You're not a guinea pig, you're one of us...

I don't even like to use the phrase guinea pig when discussing clinical research- for obvious reasons.  The doctor-patient relationship is sacrosanct and remains so whether it is a regular visit where you pay a copay or if you come in the hear about or participate in a clinical research study.  Clinical research DID have a bit of a reputation problem around the time of World War II.  But that was long ago and multiple codes, declarations and regulations have evolved to ensure that patient rights and safety are assured. We adhere vigorously to all those standards.  We have discussed ow your safety and rights are protected DURING a research study but what about afterward?  Well, we developed a no charge aftercare program to ensure that patients finishing (or leaving) a research study are not left without resources.  We will see and examine anyone who participates in a research study without charge for a year after their participation ends - no insurance required.  We will provide examinations and diagnoses and prescribe treatment as necessary.  We don't have the means to give away medications but we will write prescriptions and patients can fill those prescriptions using their insurance or own funds.  Typically, patients who see us often participate in a 2nd or 3rd research study due to the favorable experience or outcome.  Regardless of what you decide about being in a research study, staying in a research study or signing up for another one, we will take care of you.

All that and money too?
